lost

okay so mary and i have recently been watching the first season of lost. its terrible, but addicting.

so i just read this on MOBY's journal.

"oh, i've been watching 'lost'. i wish there were more monsters. i have to say that i REALLY don't care about the interpersonal drama between the soap-opera stars (aka-characters in the show). so, my suggestion to the writers/producers of 'lost' for future seasons: less people, more monsters. less normal banter, more crazy weirdness. we can get soap opera drama anywhere, but crazy monsters are rare and should be given more time....ok, i'll go back and watch some more of 'lost' and hope that the interpersonal soap-opera drama is drawing to a close and that it'll get back to monsters and weirdness."

this is EXACTLY what i have been saying too! crazy. moby and i have the same idea. WOW. its like we share ONE mind. hehe.

and also...they need to start explaining some of the crazy stuff....yeah. that's what i think. maybe moby will stumble across this post and write me a comment agreeing....anything is possible.

Bring 'Em Home Benefit

color me jealous. yes. i really should have blown off work for this.

i'm going to link to YOU now julia... details here.

but oh well. the pictures of Devendra in his velvet suit will have to suffice.

support the cause...buy some stamps!

so cute

yes...i think i have a growing infatuation. sorry. hehe.

job

well, it seems that *some* progress has been made in the whole "karen needs a job" bit. i have a job doing what i have been doing for the past 6 months with the new company that replaces my current company.

its kinda complicated.

yeah. its also really annoying and i've decided that i'm quite bored with the whole "corporate" game. yup.

i've decided people should just give me money for no apparent reason.

what do you think?? will you, my friends, donate to the karen fund? hehe?!?!!

naw, really the next two weeks of work will be hell but hopefully after that things will improve... check back with me in 2 weeks. yup.

adieu.

whoo hoo

i'm a sucker for them in general....

craig nichols really is something special. i'm VERY excited for this!

great article...

april 4th won't get here soon enough!

side note, i bought BRMC: Howl....so far so good!!

:(

i'm sorry, but this just really makes me sad. i mean who are they kidding!!!

read me if you have no faith in the US government.

arctic monkeys

snl last night. one of the best performances i've seen on snl. SUCH INDIFFERANCE.

i've never called anyone this before, but after seeing them last night i can't help but call them cheeky little bastards. so young. so cocky. SO fun to watch. they definately run the risk of burning out VERY fast.

"there's only music so that there's new ringtones" - my favorite AM lyric.

alex: "that man just yawned!"
one of the best impromptu lines EVER. and his face after he said it!
it is definately up there with julian's "yee-haw" from letterman last week.
alex is just too cute for words. hehe.

best week ever has a funny bit on them...check it out.

they are worth at least some of the hype they've received. the album is quite enjoyable. however i am kinda glad i couldn't get tickets to their boston date...it might be a little too intense at this point. if they can deal with all this hype and fame and not burn out i'll be really excited to see what else will come of them.

NIN

yup. that's him. trent reznor. he cut off all his hair. and he apparently "works out"...see his scarey arms.

i was less than impressed with the man himself, but the show was rather good. i was quite scared it would be a huge let down, but the quality of the music the showmanship and the lights were great.

mary and i arrived at the mullins center (after searching FOREVER for parking) during the first number. after a few songs i was beginning to think it was all pre-recorded. literally everything was PERFECT. so strange. i mean i've heard trent is anal, but this was a bit curious. eventually there were some differences from the albums and even a few mistakes! during "only" someone forgot to change keys something so they vamped for a bit....trent seriously looked like he was going to hit something.

"closer" was weird. there were all these added guitar parts and it took on more of an electric-pop sound. not bad....just different.

there was a video montage during a few songs. i was getting a little annoyed because the imagery was just *too* obvious...then the crowd started screaming and i was reminded that many people need imagery that is obvious and spells everything out. otherwise they won't get it.

oops. i mean...no offence....it is totally appropriate to scream and yell "fuck me trent" or "I want to have your baby" during "hurt". its not a serious song or anything. sorry.

a fun point of interest. the light guy back in the booth was adorable. he was SOO into the music, dancing a bit and bopping his head along to the music. its nice to know that his job is still fun for him and not just a job. especially lately, this is something i need to be reminded of....

so no encore. well kinda. he played hurt (often a song he closes with)...waited like 2 minutes on stage and then went into the next few songs. he played the encore set or whatever, but just didn't wait before doing so. what's up with that? did the mullins center want to get rid of them asap? mary and i were outside the venue by 10:35...on a friday night. ridiculous.

but then we found a secret way out of the parking lot and totally missed all the traffic. that was awesome.

overall, i really enjoyed it. i only got shoved a few times and spat on once. no bruises.

thanks trent. and i even forgive you for postponing the show.

check this out

pics 7 and 9 are my favorite.

Lego Brokeback Mountain.

'nuff said.

oscar update....

okay so i'm going to admit something here...i made a few notes of things i wanted to comment on in my blog while watching the oscars. not all of it made the cut as i didn't want to have this HUGE thing from the oscars.

however, i just read modern age's blog on it and literally i wanted to comment on the EXACT SAME THINGS she commented on. no! really. i'm not lying. if you read it you'll see we DID overlap several times.

also, the oscars only ended an hour and a half ago and already 20 people have commented. that is RIDICULOUS! really people.

oscar night

one jon stewart hosted the 70-something annual oscar awards earlier this evening.

and really, mr. stewart is the only reason i watched them tonight instead of just checking to see who won in the morning.

overall, i think he did a good job. i actually laughed out loud a few times. you could definately tell which jokes were his. i enjoyed the voice-over collaboration done with stephen colbert. the whole "smear campaign" with the best actress nominees was fun. but they should not have done it again for sound editing or whatever.

really, i was quite pleased to have tivo on my side during the 3 1/2 hour long event. i didn't record it all ahead of time, but i could go make a snack, check on my laundry or whatever and then come back and fast forward through some of the more boring stuff.

so i guess this year's unofficial theme was "DVDs suck". they kept harping on how no one goes to the movies, how movies are SOOO much better on "the big screen" etc. etc. it got old. fast. it was almost as annoying as the "don't watch pirated movies" theme of a few years ago (last year?)

anyway. did joaquin phoenix remind anyone else of johnny depp from last year? i feel they both wore not-so-traditional outfits, they both had these solemn looks on their faces everytime a camera hit them....oh yeah, and i wanted both of them to win but they didn't. sad.

however i was SOOOO excited for philip seymour hoffman. his performance was AMAZING. i'm so indecisive.

a huge hooray for reese! i agree with that win wholeheartedly. um, so did anyone else notice they placed her off to "music of the night" from Phantom? i found this a bit weird. oh well.

some random comments.

umm, john travolta...i'm sorry...WHAT?! why exactly is he presenting.

salma hayek? um, ok. and what was with her hair? she couldn't stop touching it. annoying.

i was endeared to tom hanks...he picks things off the ground! :)

so yeah, i haven't seen crash...maybe i should? its apparently good? thoughts?

i LOVED how jake gyllenhaal ran up to jon stewart at the end and gave him a huge hug. SO adorable!

and one more thing i want to comment on. did anyone else see the m. night shamalan (sp?) american express commercial? it was HORRIBLE. i like the kate winslet one, but his made me want to throw something at the tv. bleh.

well that's all for now kids. what were your favorite oscar moments?

"i've got nothing to say"

hello.

work has been stressful again....hence the lack of updates.

but hooray the weekend has arrived at last!!

i've spent all of today doing lots of nothing. brilliant.

mostly just playing around online getting SUPER excited for upcoming concerts. i mean like seriously excited.

Friday March 10th Nine Inch Nails
with mary. postponed show from last week.

Friday April 7th Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
i'm SOOOOO excited to finally be able to see them.

Wednesday April 12th Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab for Cutie
i could see Franz a million times and never get sick of them.

Tuesday April 25th The Strokes
i've been back and forth about seeing them again.....i mean a sober and married julian? it just won't be the same. however as i read reviews of the shows i'm getting increasingly excited again. sigh...those boys are just too much. this one is with briana. its going to rock! hehe.
