oscar night

one jon stewart hosted the 70-something annual oscar awards earlier this evening.

and really, mr. stewart is the only reason i watched them tonight instead of just checking to see who won in the morning.

overall, i think he did a good job. i actually laughed out loud a few times. you could definately tell which jokes were his. i enjoyed the voice-over collaboration done with stephen colbert. the whole "smear campaign" with the best actress nominees was fun. but they should not have done it again for sound editing or whatever.

really, i was quite pleased to have tivo on my side during the 3 1/2 hour long event. i didn't record it all ahead of time, but i could go make a snack, check on my laundry or whatever and then come back and fast forward through some of the more boring stuff.

so i guess this year's unofficial theme was "DVDs suck". they kept harping on how no one goes to the movies, how movies are SOOO much better on "the big screen" etc. etc. it got old. fast. it was almost as annoying as the "don't watch pirated movies" theme of a few years ago (last year?)

anyway. did joaquin phoenix remind anyone else of johnny depp from last year? i feel they both wore not-so-traditional outfits, they both had these solemn looks on their faces everytime a camera hit them....oh yeah, and i wanted both of them to win but they didn't. sad.

however i was SOOOO excited for philip seymour hoffman. his performance was AMAZING. i'm so indecisive.

a huge hooray for reese! i agree with that win wholeheartedly. um, so did anyone else notice they placed her off to "music of the night" from Phantom? i found this a bit weird. oh well.

some random comments.

umm, john travolta...i'm sorry...WHAT?! why exactly is he presenting.

salma hayek? um, ok. and what was with her hair? she couldn't stop touching it. annoying.

i was endeared to tom hanks...he picks things off the ground! :)

so yeah, i haven't seen crash...maybe i should? its apparently good? thoughts?

i LOVED how jake gyllenhaal ran up to jon stewart at the end and gave him a huge hug. SO adorable!

and one more thing i want to comment on. did anyone else see the m. night shamalan (sp?) american express commercial? it was HORRIBLE. i like the kate winslet one, but his made me want to throw something at the tv. bleh.

well that's all for now kids. what were your favorite oscar moments?

michelle williams' dress! and how heath fixed it when she was being photographed on the red carpet. so cute.

i love that jon stewart's hosting job did not consist of constanly making fun of people, which is what it seems like every year.

and i have "it's hard out here for a pimp" in my head.
