finally....

FINALLY i'm posting about this amazing concert.

and FINALLY i got to see the infamous karen o and dazzling nick zinner live in action.

what a show.

first of all i adore the orpheum theater in boston. such a charming place for a show. so that always helps.

karen o was on fire from the first moment she stepped onto the stage. very little direct audience interaction until the end, but she still had all of us in the palm of her hand. her outfit was AMAZING. this picture does not do it justice. and i was so happy to see her sensible choice of footwear, especially considering all of the jumping around she does.

nick was impecably dressed, all black a la johnny cash, with his ever impressive hair. he was REALLY into the set. at one point something went wrong with his guitar, karen looked over at him and you could tell he was SUPER pissed. he just shrugged and nearly threw the guitar at the tech. they recovered quickly, no worries.

the encore was SO great.

"For the four-song encore, guitarist Nick Zinner — Edward Scissorhands of the Lower East Side — came out and mumbled into the microphone guiltily, “This is my hometown.” (He’s from Sharon.) His Jersey Girl partner, who hadn’t yet addressed the crowd, prefaced their star-making song “Maps” by individually dedicating it to the band members’ romantic loves. (No word of Spike Jonze’s successor — Karen O’s love was us .) Then the audience-applause-selected “Date with a Night” segued into “Warrior,” followed by the sobering abyss of “Modern Romance.” Then the lights went up. Everyone seemed a little less cool. " from here.

this description however does NOT capture the insanity that was the audience by this point in the night. in terms of choosing "date with a night"....karen and nick were intensely talking to each other...a lot....she'd walk away, then go back....they'd talk some more...finally she tells us that she and nick can't pick the next song and did we have any suggestions. the screaming was very loud. she and nick both laughed...there was no way they could hear anything. so she had us cheer to choose which song would come next. they both seemed very amused by this.

nick did speak a few more words into the mic throughout the encore, but his voice was so small and timid that i could only catch the intonation and not the message. he did tell us his parents were there....karen was super excited by this.

the 4th member was a nice addition. for the most part he sat on the floor while he played the keyboard. it was super cute.

as expected, a super night.

also, on a more personal note, i have to say it was great to have people all around us shouting compliments to me...."karen you rock" "karen you are SO hot" "karen i want to marry you" etc. etc. so a super big "thanks" and "right back at ya" to the crowd at the orpheum that night ;) cheers.
